A Dove Editing is unique. I offer Wrap Around Editing for Your Book’s Entire Journey, meaning I can be with you from outline to proofread. It gives us a chance to build that sacred editor-author relationship so that you can trust me with your baby and I get to know your style to provide you with the best feedback possible.
If you don’t need wrap around services, don’t worry! You can hire me for one or any combo of services. I am here to help you achieve your dream at costs friendly to indie authors. Bespoke services are available too, just email me and let’s chat about what you need!
Prices for some of my services are listed as a range. These prices will be solidified after I complete a 2,000 word sample edit for you.
developmental edit
$95-$120 per 10,000 words
Looks at the big picture of your story, focusing on:
plot
character development
theme
point of view
pacing
tone and voice
tense
plot holes
narrative structure
setting
This is recommended for (at least) the first few books of an indie author’s journey. First books in a series should absolutely go through this process.
Edits come in the form of a report with comments on each of the bulleted aspects of your story.
copy & line edit
$100-$150 per 10,000 words
I offer these services together because, to me, writing style, author voice, and grammar cannot be separated when I am editing.
These focus on writing style, author voice, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. This includes pointing out:
telling not showing
awkward phrasing
passive voice
inconsistencies in plot points
wordy dialogue
incorrect grammar
author voice
repetition
slow pacing
Edits come in the form of track changes on a Word document or a Google Doc.
proofread
$95-$130 per 10,000 words
This is the last edit before your book is published.
Proofreading focuses on going through your manuscript with a fine-tooth comb to fix all typographical and formatting errors, including:
checking chapter titles and page numbers against the contents page
sequencing
ensuring document formatting is consistent
double spaces
spelling errors
punctuation errors

T’s & C’s
After we discuss timelines, word count, and prices, I create a contract for both of us to sign to ensure our expectations of one another are clear.
I prefer half of the payment at the start of the job and half upon delivery; however, I also offer payment plans across six weeks if that is more convenient for you.
If you are in NZ, I email you an invoice and expect payment through bank transfer. If you are outside of NZ, I invoice through PayPal. A 6% PayPal fee will be applied to that invoice.
